General Information

Birmingham Airport is 12km from Birmingham city. The airport is situated on the A45 Birmingham-Coventry main route, off junction 6 of the M42. The airport gives direct access to the M1, M5, M6, and M40 motorways. If you are travelling by public transport, a free Air Rail Link shuttle bus links the airport directly to Birmingham International Train Station and the National Exhibition Centre. It runs approximately every ten minutes from outside the Main Terminal (and train station). Birmingham International Train Station has a network of fast and frequent regional and intercity rail services. The service to London Euston is half-hourly (journey time: approximately 90 minutes). The airport has an extensive network of local bus services which all arrive and depart from the set down area in front of the Main Terminal. The airport is also served by a number of national coach services. Digbeth coach station in Birmingham city centre is a nationwide hub for National Express Coaches. The airport is linked to Digbeth every 20-30 minutes by bus no. 900. Taxis are available from outside the Millennium Link at the airport.

To help the deaf and hard of hearing with telephone information, a TextPhone system is installed at the Terminal 1 Airport Information Desk. There are also staff available on the Information Desk who can use sign language, and there is an Induction Loop System Airlines make their own arrangements for the care of disabled travellers and assistance will be given in getting to and from the aircraft using either a wheelchair or the purpose- built lift vehicle. If you intend your stay to be less than two hours, disabled spaces are available in the Short Stay car park close to the terminal building. For longer periods, there are spaces in the Multi-Storey car parks. Should you require assistance please press the 'Assist' button situated at the entrance/exit to car parks.

For the business traveller, in Terminal 1, there are several Executive lounges, business booths with power points, phone, fax/modem lines and meeting rooms.

Two prayer rooms are located on the ground floor in Terminal 1.

In Terminal 1, the information desk is located by the car hire outlets in the Millennium Link and Visitor centre next to the small arrivals Travelex booth. In Terminal 2, ground floor, there is a British Airways information desk and automated check in machines opposite World News. In Terminal 2, departure lounge, the British Airways Information Desk is next to Alpha Airport Duty Free.

Staying in an airport hotel on the night before your departure date enables you to have a more relaxing start to your holiday - if you are travelling by car, no travel delays stuck in traffic or bad weather, so no pressure about missing your flight. Airport Parking

There are various car parks at Birmingham Airport. As a guide, if you are coming on the M40 or M5 from the South, or the M42, then use Airparks off-site car park. If you are coming on the M1 or M6 from the North, or on the M6 from the South, then use APH off-site car park. The transfer time from the Airparks car park to the terminal is 5-10 minutes. The transfer time from APH Birmingham is 10-15 minutes. The APH Birmingham and Airparks are two of the largest off airport car parks at Birmingham Airport. The APH Birmingham Airport car park is located just off the M42 motorway, at junction 9, and has capacity to park over 2000 cars within a secure compound. The Airparks Birmingham Airport car park is located conveniently for the M42 motorway, at junction 6, and has capacity to park almost 3000 cars within a secure compound. There are three car parks on site at Birmingham airport:

The short stay car park at Birmingham airport is only recommended if you are parking for 2 hours or less. It is located just a short walking distance from the terminal. The multi-storey car park at Birmingham airport is also located close to the terminals and is within walking distance. The long stay car park is further away from the terminals and will require a bus transfer. All of the Birmingham Airport car parks are secure. Check In

Check-in desks for the main terminal, Terminal 1, are located on the ground floor in the main concourse. Check-in desks for Terminal 2 are located on the ground floor in the main concourse.

It is recommended that for:

International flights - check in 2 hours prior to departure;
European flights - check in 2 hours prior to departure;
Domestic flights - check in 1 hour prior to departure.
Hand luggage should not exceed 7 kilos and must not contain any sharp objects, replica guns, etc. You should also not take anywhere in your luggage such items as flammable or poisonous liquids, etc.(see below for a more comprehensive list).

Each terminal has a Servisair Executive Lounge, which is available to all passengers. In the departure lounge in Terminal 1, there is a Travelex located between Boots and The Gadget Shop. It is open from 05:00 to last flight 7 days a week. Cash dispensing for all cards can be found in the centre of the departure lounge. In Terminal 1, first floor, Travelex is located next to the Abraham Derby pub and open 05:00-20:00 7 days a week. In Terminal 1, ground floor, there are four Travelex, two in the arrivals area, one in the main concourse and one at Check-in. All open 7 days, 05:00-20:00. In Terminal 2, ground floor, the Currency Express in Arrivals area is open 7 days, 05:30 to last flight. Currency Express in the check in area is open 7 days, Sunday-Friday 05:30-22:00 and closes Saturday at 20:00 Alliance & Leicester cash dispensers serving most cards are located next to World News. In Terminal 2, departure lounge, there are 2 Currency Express outlets open 7 days, Sunday to Friday 05:30-22:00 and closes Saturday 20:00. There is a cash dispenser serving all cards next to Currency Express by gate A.

A pub, a bar, 2 coffee outlets, Burger King and a sandwich shop are located around the departure lounge of Terminal 1. A wide selection of shops are available, including newsagents, health and beauty, electrical, gifts and accessories. In Terminal 1, first floor, a wide selection of restaurants can be found at Food Village. There are also pub, bar and takeaway options available.
