General Information

Heathrow Airport is 15 miles (24 km) west of London, on the M4 motorway, near the M25 interchange. All Terminals and appropriate motorway exits are signposted. Make sure you know which terminal to go to before setting out.

Terminals 1, 2 & 3 are located in the centre of Heathrow and can be reached via the following motorways:

Terminal 4 is on the south side of Heathrow and can be reached via the following motorways:

If you are setting down passengers at the airport there are designated set down points located outside each terminal. There is a Railair service operating to and from London Heathrow Airport providing links to stations in Feltham, Reading, Woking and Watford Junction. Heathrow has two stations on London Underground's Piccadilly Line, one station for Terminals 1, 2 & 3 and one for Terminal 4. The average journey time to central London is about 50 - 60 minutes from Terminal 4 and 55-60 minutes from Terminals 1, 2 & 3. Tubes run every five minutes at peak times and every nine minutes at off-peak times and weekends. During the night, the N97 bus connects Heathrow with central London every 30 minutes.

Each terminal has a left luggage facility for storing baggage for a number of hours or days, operated by Excess Baggage Company. Items are security checked.

Baby changing facilities are available before and after passport control in each terminal.

There is a Business Centre, operated by Travelex, in the Queens Building, which is between Terminals 1 & 2. Facilities on offer include showers, meeting rooms, refreshments, a conference suite, computer workstations, faxes, photocopiers, internet, audio and visual conferencing and e-mail. BT Openzone and T-Mobile provide broadband wireless service throughout Heathrow airport.

Public telephones are easily accessible in the main areas of each passenger terminal. Telephones for the use of passengers in wheelchairs and for the hard of hearing with text keyboards are available in each terminal. Also available are wall-mounted pay fax machines, which take credit cards.

In terminal 4, there are internet cafes, on the mezzanine level.

In the Queens Building, there is also the Heathrow Health Centre, where nurses offer basic treatment.

Boots the Chemist is located before and after security in each terminal. Only the chemist in Terminal 1 dispenses prescriptions.

Post boxes are available after passport control in all four terminals.

There is a Post Office in Terminal 2

The information desk on the Terminal 1 arrivals concourse is open from 06:30-23:00 daily. There are bus, coach and rail information desks at Terminals 1 and 3 and a bus and coach information desk outside Terminal 4 Arrivals.

Showers are available throughout the airport.

The Heathrow Visitor Centre on the Bath Road offers an interactive exhibition about the airport with great views over the Northern runway.

St.George?s Chapel is beside the control tower and opposite the Terminal 2 car park. It is reached by a flight of stairs and is open from early morning to late at night. A prayer room for all faiths can be found at ground level as an additional worship facility.

Elderly or disabled passengers, and parents travelling alone with young children and baggage, can use the help points at various places throughout the terminals to call for free assistance from the Skycap porters. Tips are not accepted.

The Travelex Business centre is located in the Queens Building between Terminals 1 and 2. It is a large complex, for small private functions through to much larger corporate meetings. The Facilities include:

20 meeting rooms;

A conference suite with eating of up to 60 people theatre style;

Showers;

Meeting refreshments;

Business support facilities, including two computer workstations, faxing, photocopying, internet, audio and video conferencing, and Email.

Airport Hotels

Staying in an airport hotel on the night before your departure date enables you to have a more relaxing start to your holiday ? if you are travelling by car, no travel delays stuck in traffic or bad weather, so no pressure about missing your flight. It can also save money on parking, as hotel + parking often works out at only a few pounds more than a room alone, or sometimes the package works out cheaper than the parking charges alone.

The Hotel and Traveller Centre in Terminal 3 arrivals area offers information on hotel accommodation.

The Hilton London Heathrow Airport is only 5 minutes from Terminal 4 so is the closest you will get to the airport. The nearest tube is 5 minutes away, the nearest station (Feltham) 2 miles away and the nearest motorway juntion is the M4, junction 4a. Facilities of the hotel include: a Business Centre, Conference / Meeting Room, Fitness Centre / Health Club / Spa, Outdoor and Disabled Parking, Restaurant, Car Rental Desk, Currency Exchange and 24 hour porter service.

Airport Parking

The short stay parking is recommended for stays up to five hours and is available from all four terminals. There is also a fifth car park in the central terminal area, car park 1a.

Business Parking is recommended for travellers parking for up to four days, or those wanting greater speed and convenience. Business car parks are located closer to the terminals than long stay and operate a more frequent courtesy coach transfer. Business Parking is available from all four terminals.

The long stay car parks at Heathrow Airport offer secure parking facilities, with a transfer services every 5-15 minutes (depending on which car park you choose).

Airport parking can be booked on the day, but it is adviseable to pre-book in order to secure a parking space. Booking in advance is usually more economical with most car parks offering discounts for phone and online bookings.

If you do not wish to have to transfer from the car park to the terminal you may wish to choose the Meet and Greet valet parking service. The valet parking service involves a chauffeur meeting you at a pre-arranged time at your departure terminal and parking the car for you in a secure compound. Upon your return, the car will be delivered to you at the terminal.

Check In

Terminal 1 - Check-in and Departures for domestic destinations operate from the first floor of Terminal 1, on the left of the concourse. Check-in desks for international flights are located in the middle and on the right of the concourse.

Terminal 2 - Check-in area is located on the ground floor of Terminal 2.

Terminal 3 - Check-in is located on the ground floor at the front of the building.

Terminal 4 - Check-in is located on the first floor of the terminal. The roof of Terminal 4's short term car park is on the same level giving passengers direct access.

It is recommended you arrive at the following time guides:

International flights - check in 3 hours prior to departure;

European flights - check in 2 hours prior to departure;

Domestic flights - check in 1 hour prior to departure.

Hand luggage should not exceed 7 kilos and must not contain any sharp objects, replica guns, etc. You should also not take anywhere in your luggage such items as flammable or poisonous liquids, etc.(see below for a more comprehensive list).

All passengers and hand luggage will be searched before entering the Departure Lounge. Enhanced security can take time, so please be patient with any additional personal and luggage searches and please carry only one piece of hand luggage.

Airline Lounges

There are 3 Executive Lounges at Heathrow, located in Terminals 1, 2 and 3, run by Servisair. The Lounges offer a wide range of complimentary beverages and snacks, a selection of newspapers and magazines, television, and showers. There are also work areas equipped with phone, fax, internet and e mail connections.

Banks and Money Exchange

The Travelex bureau des change is open for all international flights, where you can buy your currency and travellers cheques commission free. The other option is ICE, where again you can buy your currency and travellers cheques commission free. ICE can be found at the same parts of Heathrow airport as Travelex.

In terminal 1, departures, there are 2 Bureaux des Change in the retail shopping area, and the opening times are: Travelex 05:30 to 22:00, and ICE 06:00 to 21:00.

In terminal 1, arrivals, there is a Travelex Bureaux de Change in the Baggage Reclaim area (open 05:30 to 22:00) and one in the Arrivals meeting area (open same times).

In terminal 1, airside, there are 2 Bureaux de Change : Thomas Cook (open earliest to latest flight) and ICE (open 06:00 - 21:00).

In terminal 2, departures, there are 2 Bureaux de Change : Travelex, open 05:45 - 21:00, and ICE, open 06:00 to 21:00. There is a further ICE Bureau open 07:00 - 19:00, and 2 Bureaux serving Arrivals area, ICE 06:00 - 23:00 and Travelex 06:30 - 22:30.

In terminal 2, arrivals, there are 2 Bureaux de Change : Travelex, open 06:30 to 22:45, and ICE, open 07:00 to 23:00. There are another two exchange facilities at the Departures end of the floor.

In terminal 2, airside, there are 2 Bureaux de Change: Thomas Cook, open 06:00 - 21:30, and ICE, open 06:00 - 21:30.

In terminal 3, departures, there are 2 Bureaux de Change in the middle of the shopping row: Thomas Cook, open 05:30 - 22:00, and Travelex, open 05:00 - 22:00.

In terminal 3, arrivals, there are 2 Bureaux de Change in Baggage Reclaim: Thomas Cook, open 05:15 - 22:00, and Travelex, open 05:15 - 21:30.

In terminal 3, airside, there are 2 Bureaux de Change: Thomas Cook, open 06:00 to 22:00 near Tie Rack, and Travelex, open 05:30 to 22:00 beside Swatch.

In terminal 4, departures, there are 3 Bureaux de Change: Thomas Cook, open 05:30 - 23:00, Travelex open 05:30 - 22:00 in the middle of the building, and an additional Travelex near the Post Office at the left of the building.

In terminal 4, arrivals, there are 3 Bureaux de Change: Thomas Cook, open 24 hours, Travelex, open 24 hours, both located in the middle of the floor, and an additional Travelex towards the left luggage counter.

In terminal 4, airside, there are 4 Bureaux de Change: 2 Thomas Cook, open 05:00 to 22:00, and 2 Travelex, open 05:30 to 21:30.

Cash Dispensers are available both before and after security. All cash dispensers will accept all valid UK Bank and Building society cards (i.e. Link affiliated) without surcharge. They also accept major credit cards.

In terminal 1, departures, there aren?t any on the departures level, the nearest are on the ground floor near the International Arrivals Meeting Point.

In terminal 2, departures, they are behind the stairs to the mezzanine floor, and most domestic and international cards are accepted.

In terminal 2, arrivals, they are behind the stairs to the mezzanine floor, and most domestic and international cards are accepted.

In terminal 3, departures, there are 3 machines beside the Travelex Bureau de Change, which handle most international and domestic cards.

In terminal 3, arrivals, there are 2 near the Booksplus news shop - Barclays and Midland provide facilities for most international and domestic cards.

In terminal 4, departures, there is an Abbey Link ATM at the main Travelex Bureau de Change and a Barclays machines near the small Travelex beside Costa Coffee. They accept most international and domestic cards.

In terminal 4, arrivals, there are Barclays and Link ATMs beside the Thomas Cook Bureau de Change. They accept international and domestic cards.

Food and Drink

In terminal 1, departures, outlets for meals, light refreshments and bars are situated on the mezzanine level above the shopping area. There is a self service restaurant and a burger bar on the Departures level near the domestic gates.

In terminal 1, arrivals, there is just light refreshments on the Arrivals level.

In terminal 1, airside, there is a selection of outlets, including table and self service restaurants, snacks, a seafood bar and two bars.

In terminal 2, departures & arrivals, outlets for meals, light refreshments and a bar are located on the mezzanine level above the shopping area. There is a coffee bar on the main level.

In terminal 2, airside, there is a limited selection of burgers and pub food.

In terminal 3, departures, there is a restaurant, a burger bar and a pub on the left hand side of the Departures floor, with a coffee shop towards the right hand end of the shopping row.

In terminal 3, arrivals, there is a selection of food and drink outlets.

In terminal 4, departures, there is a self service restaurant for meals and snacks and a bar, located on the mezzanine floor between Departures and Arrivals. There is a caf? bar at the left end of the terminal and a coffee cart towards the right.

In terminal 4, arrivals, there is a Caf? bar serving light refreshments only on Arrivals floor. There is more choice upstairs on the mezzanine floor.

Shops and Duty Free

In terminal 1, departures, there is a limited range of outlets on the Departures level.

In terminal 1, airside, there is a wider selection of duty free outlets at better prices.

In terminal 2, departures & arrivals, the shops are centrally located between departures and arrivals. There is a limited range of outlets available, but the extended seating area provides extra choice.

In terminal 2, airside, there is a wider selection at better prices at the duty free outlets.

In terminal 3, departures, there is a varied selection of outlets.

In terminal 3, arrivals, there is a news shop / bookstore and a map shop.
