General Information
London Stansted is just 30 miles (48km) northeast of central London, situated next to junction 8a of the M11 motorway with easy links to the M25 (London Orbital) Motorway.
By rail, the Stansted Express is a fast and convenient way to and from Stansted Airport. The station is just underneath the main terminal and trains depart every 15 or 30 minutes. All trains have facilities for special needs passengers.
The coach station is located below between Zone C and D of the Short Stay Car Park.
If you have a special needs, we would recommend:
Do compare the arrangements offered by different airlines before making your booking.
Do be sure to check whether the cost of any special assistance is included in the price of the ticket.
Do inform your airline of your particular needs in good time.
Do check the policy of your airline if you wish to remain in your own wheelchair to the aircraft door rather than transfer to an airline wheelchair at check-in.
Do bear in mind that there are often long walking distances within airports and that you may need assistance for this reason.
Induction loops are fitted in many areas of the terminal and satellites and are identified by the sympathetic ear sign.
All telephones throughout the airport are fitted with induction couplers.
Public text phones are situated in the international arrivals area and in the satellite two departure lounge.
A number of airport staff are proficient in BSL stage one and the majority have been trained in deaf awareness. Many of the staff are able to finger spell.
Guide and hearing dogs are the only dogs allowed in the terminal buildings.
An information desk is located in the International Arrivals area. Courtesy telephones are situated around the terminal, with a direct link to the information desk.
Airport Hotels
Staying in an airport hotel on the night before your departure date enables you to have a more relaxing start to your holiday - if you are travelling by car, no travel delays stuck in traffic or bad weather, so no pressure about missing your flight. It can also save money on parking, as hotel + parking often works out at only a few pounds more than a room alone, or sometimes the package works out cheaper than the parking charges alone.
The Hilton London Stansted is at the airport and offers a courtesy bus link to/from the terminal. The brand new Radisson SAS hotel has 500 rooms and is just two minutes via a covered walkway from the terminal building.
