Holiday Essentials

When travelling to the airport by car, the following recommendations are worth taking on board:

Service the car to avoid any breakdowns on the way to the airport;
Ensure you have breakdown cover with the AA, RAC, etc.;
Allow at least an hour extra to deal with any vehicle mishap;
If you will be travelling through rush hour, add at least 2 hours. Traditionally Monday and Friday traffic is also heavier with long stay commuters returning or coming from home for the weekend. Also, busy times for airport traffic are between the hours of 07.00 to 09.30 and 0.400 to 06.30;
Make sure you take your directions to any off-airport car park;
Check on anticipated weather conditions for your drive;
Obtain a route planner (from the AA or RAC, etc. on line), which will inform you of any road works along the way.

Other holiday essentials include:
Examine your tickets and ensure you have the correct departure and check in times, and the correct names. All times are written in a 24- hour clock format;
Check which terminal you will be flying from;
Reduce the risk of being burgled by setting the burglar alarm, locking everything and leaving a key with a neighbour, cancelling the milk and newspapers;
So you have less worry whilst away, remember to unplug everything, and if you are travelling in the winter, leave the heating on very low or on a timer for a few hours a day;
Check that your passports have not expired, or will not whilst you are away;
All children, from new born babies to the age of 15, must now have their own individual passport.
