History of Off-airport Parking

As airport traffic and passengers have increased, so has the need for parking space. Initially, as the airports ran out of space to put in place extra parking, landowners based near the airports opened their land up for parking on, but now the official parking is less haphazard.

The number of spaces in the off-airport car parks used to be estimated manually, which was a horrendous job with people coming in and out of the car parks throughout the day, lengths of stay varying, cancellations, etc.. Nowadays, it is much more efficient with the use of computers, with the only big headache now being flight delays. Booking is also much easier now with the use of the internet.
